Reasonable Doubt

Tuesday, 2 August 2016 11:37:43 Europe/London

Firstly, let me say that even talking about this album being two decades old makes me feel like life is moving too fast. Having said that, it's amazing to think about how music can be such a constant in an ever-changing world; how many albums from your youth are just as important now as they were back then? When Sean Carter announced himself to the world of music, nobody doubted how immensely talented, motivated and driven he was yet, at the same time, it would have been impossible to predict just how influential and successful he would become. Reasonable Doubt remains an impeccable slice of musical goodness and sets a standard that many would argue is yet to be surpassed by any artist since (although a few have come close and some might claim to have done better - no names mentioned). Every track glides into your ears and Jay-Z's effervescent lyrics tumble over the beats like a carefully drizzled sauce to create something timeless and delicious. I'm feelin' it.

Cannabis Culture Music

Tuesday, 2 August 2016 11:29:55 Europe/London

Some music fits well with smoking and some artists are directly associated with cannabis culture, yet there are very few artists out there today who live and breathe cannabis like this collective. Aside from just smoking it, they cultivate it, discuss it, campaign for it and even record their tracks surrounded by it (see their article in this issue for more information). Mendo Dope produce a relaxed and rustic vibe which spills through your speakers and settles nicely to create a chilled atmosphere. Definitely the type of album which goes well with a smoke, they wax lyrical about all manner of cannabis-related topics over the course of a nicely varied track selection and deliver a constant stream of hazy goodness. It's difficult to pinpoint a specific favorite and many listeners will find themselves drawn to the album as a whole entity, but the opening track 'Follow Me' certainly sets the tone for the what follows.
