Inert: chemically non-reactive, for example inert growing material. Controlling the nutrient solution is made easy because the growing medium is inert.
Insecticide:
any substance that kills insects.
Internode:  the portion of a stem found between 2 successive nodes.
Ion: an atom that carries a charge due to loss or gain of electrons.
Jiffy-7 pellet: compressed peat moss, wrapped in plastic. When moistened, it expands into a small pot that is used to start seeds or cuttings.
Kelvin: an absolute scale temperature where a range of 1 Kelvin (K) is equal to a range of 1degree Celsius.
Leach: dissolve or remove nutrients or other substances from growing mediums by the percolation of water.
Leader: see Meristem. 
Leaf blade: that part of the leaf where photosynthesis takes place.
Leaf curl: leaf malformation due to over watering, over fertilisation, lack of magnesium, or insect or fungus damage.
Leaflet: small immature leaf. 
Leaf Whorls: a circular set ( 2 or more) of leaves arising at the same level on the plant.
Lime: used to raise and stabilise Ph.
Litmus paper: paper used for testing acidity/alkalinity.
Lumen:  measurement of light output, one lumen is equal to the amount of light emitted by one candle that falls on one square foot of surface located one foot away from the candle.
Lux: measurement of lumens or light.
