Paradise Seeds Q&A

A few questions to Luc, breeder of the premium Paradise Seeds & genetics.

Q Tell me something about your seed catalogue, what kind of seeds do you have?
We have a collection of 20 marijuana varieties, regular as well as feminised seeds. We have recently released a new feminised variety Delahaze, which already won a silver medal at the Hightimes Cannabis Cup this year.  The other feminised varieties are also fine examples of superb quality cannabis, highly appreciated by the grow community.

Q Which ones are your favourites, Indica & Sativa?
From the classic strains in the Indica category the most enjoyable plants for me is Sensi Star and Sheherazade and from the new varieties, Ice Cream and Opium. I would pick Nebula and Dutch Dragon as my favourite classic sativa strains, Delahaze and Jacky White from the new releases

Q What is the top 10 list of most wanted strains?
1  Opium
2  SeNsi Star
3  Magic bud
4  Belladonna
5  Nebula
6  Ice Cream
7  Jacky White
8  Dutch Dragon
9  Sheherazade
10 Spoetnik #1

Q What do you look for when selecting mothers and fathers?
I always look first at flavour and potency. For me it is important to create a match between parent plants, that will give offspring of the very best quality. If that is achieved, I select in this line the genetics with the best weight and size to inherit high yields.

Q Is backcrossing with the original parent plants important? Are they as good as F1 hybrids?
It is important to make several hybrid lines then to backcross with the original mother, or one can stabilize by inbreeding certain characteristics. for example make two favourite lines of genetics by backcrossing, after several generations you finally achieve a super Aromatic F1 with strong vigour and potency by crossbreeding.

Q Do you think clones are necessary?
I hear this question a lot, I think it isn’t. It is only useful when one grows commercially indoors on a big scale to make harvests every 8 weeks. On the other hand I know of growers that have kept some of their favourite plants to be able to grow the same over and over again. It is always a good idea  to make a clone if you find a keeper from a seedling.

Q Have you seen your varieties growing in England, & of all your varieties which one will do best outdoors?
I have seen many of our varieties grown all around the world also in England. The outdoor situation in England is like the one we have in Holland, where the climate is moderate to cold. Therefore it is best to choose genetics that are fast finishers before the unfavourable circumstances of autumn begin at the end of October.  From the Indica’s Rox, Durga Mata and also Sheherazade, and from the Sativa’s  Dutch Dragon and Opium, perform well outdoors in moderate climates..

Q Can you give us some advice how to grow the best quality plants?
You get the best quality by making sure the plants have enough (sun) light and fresh air (ventilation), enough nutrients and space to fully develop.
Always use clean water with a balanced pH and Ec and as long as the flowers are not susceptible to fungus, you can boost plants by spraying them with a light mixture of natural minerals and algae’s.
Also important is good genetics. Needless to say, you can get that directly from Paradise Seeds.
