Using Cannabis to Treat Cancer

Cancer

Whenever anyone mentions Cancer people go silent and a knowing look is clearly visible on their face. 1 in 2 people have either been affected by cancer or have known someone very close to them who has had it or sadly even died from it.

What is Cancer?

Our body and its organs are made up of tissue and cells.  From time to time some of the cells go wrong.  Instead of splitting and creating a new cell that heals and helps the body repair the cell becomes abnormal and then it does the same process of splitting but instead of a healthy cell it keeps creating abnormal cells which then lump together and cause what is called a tumor.  Not all tumors are cancerous, however some are and affect the tissue around the lump and in some cases the cancer cells can travel around the body spreading the disease via the lymphatic system.

Cancer can happen at any age, but the risk of developing cancer does increase with age.

Over 330,000 people each year are diagnosed with Cancer in the UK.

In the US there is a staggering 1,658,370 new Cancer cases diagnosed.

Cancer itself can cause breathlessness, pain and discomfort, nausea, tiredness and ascities.  It can also cause a lot more discomfort depending where the Cancer is found in the body.

Mainstream drugs and treatments that treat Cancer can sometimes be worse than the illness itself; the side effects can be very debilitating.

Chemotherapy can cause the following with some people not all:

  • Causing sickness
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Tiredness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sore mouth & nose
  • Hair loss
  • Early menopause
  • Osteoporosis
  • Peripheral neuropathy

Radiation can cause the following (again with some people not all):

  • Burns
  • Inflammation
  • Hair loss
  • Anemia
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhoea
  • Discomfort swallowing
  • Stiff joints
  • Bladder changes
  • Bowel changes
  • Sex life

All of which can also lead onto depression, as long term treatments can be years.

Cannabis and Cancer

Cannabis has been used to treat illnesses for years, centuries ago when there wasn’t the stigma and laws attached to it cannabis was widely used.  Recently a lot of scientists, politicians, countries have spoken out about Cannabis and we have seen significant changes in mood and tolerance.  Especially in USA, Uruguay and Jamaica where we have seen no restrictions and people can use cannabis freely.

What many people do not know about Cannabis is that we as humans hold Cannabinoid receptors inside our own body, this means when we ingest cannabis we naturally create our own antidote to any illness, therefore we have the ability to heal ourselves by using this plant. Could it be that easy, yes!  This plant has grown wild alongside us for years; we have always had the ability to use it but laws and bad press have prevented it.

Cannabis and Cannabinoids–for health professionals (PDQ®)

This complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) information summary provides an overview of the use of Cannabis and its components as a treatment for people with cancer -related symptoms caused by the disease itself or its treatment.

Chemical components of Cannabis, called cannabinoids, activate specific receptors found throughout the body to produce pharmacologic effects, particularly in the central nervous system and the immune system.

Cannabinoids may have benefits in the treatment of cancer-related side effects.

All cannabis strains have medicinal properties, some more potent than others. Do a lot of research first.

Strains balanced with CBD (a mix of dominant cannabinoids in balanced ratios seem to work best -- CBD, THC and CBG being the most common and prevalent in the plant, which is why whole-plant extracts seem the most effective. These strains are best for direct Cancer treatment as well as managing side effects of the Cancer treatment.

Muscle relaxant, anxiety, insomnia, pain relief, anti-inflammatory, headaches & migraines, ocular relief, nausea/vomiting, stimulates appetite, depression, reduces seizures, Anorexia, helps immune system, analgesia, saliva reduction,

Bronchiodialator, anti-oxidative, prevents cancer cell /growth in tumors, reduces blocked arteries, reduces blood sugar levels, kills & slows blood sugar levels, promotes bone growth, protects nervous system.

Be aware of your countries laws around Cannabis and Cannabis oil, it is illegal in some countries and can carry a prison sentence!

If you are going to treat yourself with any strains, not all are high in CBD and low in THC (which would be the recommended plant to treat and make oil from). So if the strain is high in THC be careful not to drive or operate machinery as you will be affected by THC, also in some countries such as the UK you could be affected by the drug driving law: http://think.direct.gov.uk/drug-driving.html
