It's Chico-Time! From Beats to retreats and a cannabis-healed stroke in-between - By Dee Mani-Mitchell

I was recently introduced to Chico by a mutual friend, I knew nothing of the X Factor star other than his time on the show..

After being placed in the quarter-finals of the biggest reality talent contest at the time, Chico’s single became a number one hit, his charismatic performance held him at the top spot for two weeks, and probably one of the biggest moments in his singing career was knocking Madonna off the top of the charts with her single Sorry. At the height of his fame, he opened a concert for Lionel Ritchie and his success enabled him to set up his charity work, a foundation called the Rainbow Child which was a dedication to his Grandfather to help over 100,000 children worldwide, he succeeded!

Chico decided to combine his love for fitness with music and created Block Fit, which is a dance combat type of yoga meditation! The success of Block Fit threw Chico onto his spiritual path as he was able to learn and teach a specific type of breathing technique which he once again went onto creating another mission, known as HU Breath, which is incorporated into his retreats which he now holds in The Algarve, Portugal. During this time you could say Chico was more physically fit than the average person, however, that still didn’t stop the fatality that was about to become.

In 2018 Chico suffered a stroke whilst ironically driving back from one of the fitness gigs, he lay slumped in his car alone for over 2 hours before miraculously finding the strength to drive home. Later tests detailed that he had experienced a major blood clot that caused the brain attack, a diagnosis which instantly kills 50% of its victims.

Doctors literally couldn’t understand how Chico had managed to not only survive but to drive himself back home which he proclaims his success from none other than his health and fitness. Thankfully, Chico went on to fully recover from the ordeal in which he believes the cannabis oil he was using to self-medicate played a huge part in his healing and he still incorporates plant medicine into his spiritual and body healing, if it wasn’t for his cannabis use, he dreads to think what state his health would be in now.

Luckily Chico was already aware of the miracle medicinal benefits of cannabis as he used to advise cancer sufferers to use full extract cannabis oil (FECO) as part of their healing protocol, he delved into the ways our sacred plant heals after losing many family members to this deadly disease.

How does cannabis help in recovering from a stroke?

According to the World Stroke organization, over 13 million people will have a stroke each year and around 5.5 million people will die as a result.

FECO is a powerful anti-inflammatory substance that contributes to removing plaque from blood vessels. Inflammation is the body’s response at the time of dealing with medical trauma or injury. When someone suffers from a stroke, a huge amount of inflammation takes place where the clot has happened. After a stroke occurs, the body has increased levels of inflammation, which works as a defense system in the body.

The inflammation as well as oxidation also increases inside the damaged cells, which can seriously damage the cells permanently. Therefore cannabis helps in lessening the inflammation during and after the stroke.

Cannabis is also an antioxidant, which helps in counteracting excessive cellular oxidation, which also contributes to the removal of toxic cells from the body.

Besides, cannabis is also known as a strong contributor to great cardiovascular health and has also shown to decrease the level of bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. This lowers the risk of stroke as well as a heart attack and related health problems

Another reason why cannabis can help in recovering from a stroke is its powerful ability to increase blood flow. Paralysis is one of the results of a stroke, which happens due to the interrupted flow of blood in the body. Everyday consumption of cannabis can help in increasing and maintaining the blood flow in the body.

Additionally, this miracle plant also reduces anxiety, stress, and depression in individuals while it interacts with the cannabinoids in the body to achieve a state of balance, known as homeostasis. It also regulates functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and digestion, which keeps the body healthy, fit, and happy.

So what’s Chico up to now?

With the assistance of cannabis, Chico has gone on to make a full recovery from his stroke and he now organizes healing retreats in Portugal, with the aim of nurturing guests to free their mind and fuel their soul. What better way to end this article with one of Chico’s favorite quotes from the spiritual musical prophet and cannabis God himself - Bob Marley, “One love, one heart - let’s get together and feel alright”.
